Jason Berkopes - Author of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Beyond

I like to call myself a hobbyist at heart. I enjoy a wide range of creative pursuits—so many, in fact, that there’s never enough time to explore them all. Outside of my day job, I’m an author and painter, with plans to expand into woodworking, and I’ve always had a love for working on cars. Some hobbies demand more space, money, and time than I currently have, but the creative spark is always there.

My professional career has been rooted in computers, support, quality assurance, and security, but my true passion lies in creating. Writing and painting have given me the outlets I need to channel that lifelong creative streak. Both journeys have had unexpected beginnings, unique challenges, and rewarding milestones—and I continue to be excited about where they’re headed.

At the center of my writing is the Rise of the Avatar trilogy, a post-apocalyptic, pandemic-influenced series set in a distant future where humanity struggles to rebound with only one to two billion people remaining. Alongside that, Poisoned Kingship begins an epic eight-book fantasy series built on a completely custom world. I hand-draw the maps, enhance them with digital tools, and plan to update the geography as the story itself evolves—each book tied to its own place in the world.

Several other projects are in development as well, including ones I’ll reveal in time, but my larger goal is always the same: to bring compelling stories to life through imagination, discipline, and faith.

My creative work is deeply influenced by both my Christian faith and my vivid imagination. I once considered myself agnostic, but after my spiritual transformation, I wanted to explore the intersections of science, spirituality, and human struggle in my writing. These themes run like subtle threads through my stories—not to overshadow the narrative, but to add depth and resonance to the journeys my characters take. Fiction should be a space that anyone can enjoy, regardless of their beliefs, and I write with that inclusivity in mind.

Years ago, I made the decision to leave behind a more stressful career path in order to create space for my artistic and authorial goals. That was not a choice I took lightly, but it’s one I’ve never regretted. Today, I see the results of that decision every time I hold one of my books in my hands—a reminder that creating something out of nothing is one of the most rewarding pursuits in life.

I’m excited to share my stories, my artwork, and my creative journey with anyone interested. On my blog, you can follow along as I document the process of taking an idea from concept to finished book. In time, I’ll also share my experiences with marketing and building a creative brand, so that others who dream of bringing their own ideas to life might find encouragement and insight along the way.
